A cosmetic dentist is a person who performs any dental work to improve the appearance of the teeth or gums. It may or may not improve the functionality of the teeth. Their work basically focuses on improving the dental aesthetic concerning position, size, shape, color, alignment and overall smile appearance.

Cosmetic dentistry is on the rise without any doubt.  There are proves that a dentist can almost transform anyone’s teeth to provide them the smile, they desire. The cosmetic dentist also helps to decide which procedure will work best to enhance the smile of the person.

Some Of The Procedures Performed By The Cosmetic Dentist Are:

Cosmetic teeth whitening

Cosmetic teeth whitening is also known as teeth bleaching. The process can whiten or brighten the teeth from staining and/or from discoloration. The process can be carried out in a dental clinic or even at home. Everyone’s teeth are not suitable for bleaching; hence, a cosmetic dentist must be consulted before carrying out the process. The dentist will first evaluate the teeth and check whether whitening is suitable for the teeth and the smile or not.

Veneers

The custom-made porcelain laminates that are ultra-thin and are meant to be bonded directly to the teeth are known as veneers. They are great options to fill gaps between teeth, change the color of the teeth which do not react well to the whitening procedures or enhance the shape of the teeth. In most of the cases, some amount of tooth reduction is necessary for best results. Before the fabrication of the veneers, the cosmetic dentist fabricates a diagnostic mock-up, which works as a tooth preparation guide to achieve a pleasing smile. It allows the dentist to estimate the changes that need to be done to the person’s teeth with respect to the size, shape, and proportion. The mock-ups help a lot to check if the teeth really need any kind of remodeling or not.

Bridging

The replacement of one or more teeth is made possible by dental bridges. Abutments, the teeth which are prepared, and the fallen tooth called poetics are used to make bridges. The process is used to replace one or more fallen or missing teeth and it is cemented in. Bridges can consist of as many as three teeth and the ability to work of any bridge is generally determined by Ante’s law and the position where it needs to be fixed. Usually, most bridges are fixed and hence cannot be removed or taken out like partial dentures. For the teeth which are visible, Cantilever or Maryland bridges are used. They are minimally invasive but are also prone to failures. The bridges require commitment owing to serious oral hygiene and carry a huge risk. The life expectancy or durability of the bridges is mostly ten years.

Cosmetic dental crowns

Crowns, which are often referred to as caps, are usually custom made and they fit over the whole tooth after the cosmetic dentist has made it. They are generally composed of porcelain and acrylic and then fused to metal which helps it withstand biting pressure. Crowns can be used in cosmetic dentistry for various reasons. They include treating teeth which are very poorly shaped, teeth which are badly decayed, teeth which are chipped or broken, teeth which had large fillings or to cover and fill spaces between the teeth.

The above procedures are performed by a cosmetic dentist and their qualification and practice ensure that they do this job efficiently and effectively. Cosmetic dental surgery has become very popular nowadays, but you should never make a decision in haste, try to find out the best ones and then proceed. Remember, your smile is precious.
